Jumia Mini Case study

Introduction

I had always thought about how everytime I'd like to checkout just some items in my cart on the Jumia mobile app, I'll have to remove those items in the cart to favorites and it was always sometimes stressful and very annoying.

The goal:

  • The goal of this project was to improve the cart experience on the Jumia E-commerce Mobile app, to make it more stress free.

My role:

As a UX Designer, I thought about how I could solve this problem and whether I was the only user-facing this kind of problem.

User research

I carried out a primary quantitative research via survey to see if I was the only user that was facing this problem

The survey was completed by 20 persons and survey participants were screened out on the basis of having previously used Jumia.

Survey questions asked include:

  • Have you used Jumia before?

  • Have you ever had any issues when checking out on Jumia? If yes, please explain

  • Have you ever wanted to be able to checkout only one item in your cart, instead of having to add other items in your cart to favourites when checking out?

From the survey, I found out that 16 jumia customers had the same issue of wanting to be able to checkout specific items in their cart, without having to clear other items.

Wireframes

Based on the results of my research, I identified several key areas for improvement.

To address this issue, I gave a thought to how this could be solved and created this wireframes with a solution in mind.

I added checkboxes into the existing User Interface of the Jumia cart in which this will help users be able to select the particular items they'll like to checkout without having to remove this items from their cart or adding this items to favourites.  I made sure to stay consistent with the pre-existing Jumia User interface promoting consistency and a normal user flow that Jumia users are familiar with.

Takeaways

Impact

The redesign will helps jumia users to be able to checkout certain items in their cart without having to remove future items to be bought saved in the cart.

What I learned

While designing, I realized and began to understand that a minute flaw in a design or design process, no matter how minute it is, is very important and can impact the overall user experience of the product.

Next Steps

  • Conduct a round of usability studies to validate whether the pain points users experienced have been effectively addressed and whether anymore improvements could be made.
